Go Ahead Eagles

How Go Ahead Eagles are set up for the 2026/27 Eredivisie season: squad movement, tactical approach and the questions that remain open.

How current this is

Last updated: 30 August 2026 · After Matchweek 4. Drawn from 42 sources. Overall: limited confidence.

The league has played up to Matchweek 7 since then. Matches after this profile’s last update are not reflected in it.

Where they stand

  • Four matches played, seven points. Go Ahead beat Willem II 4-1 at home on 8 August, drew 2-2 away at Feyenoord on 16 August after trailing 2-0 at half-time, beat ADO Den Haag 3-1 at home on 23 August, and Lost 5-2 Away At AZ on 29 August. The Fourth Match Supplies A Clean Counter-Instance To The One Defensive Reading This Card Held. Twice an opponent had produced volume against this side and almost none of it had reached the goalkeeper — six of twenty-seven on target at Feyenoord, three of sixteen against ADO. At AZ The Volume Arrived And So Did The Target: twenty shots with thirteen from inside the box and Eight On Target, from 2.80 expected goals. Kjetil Haug made three saves and conceded five. The Margin Is Not The Performance and no defensive verdict is drawn from it: five goals against 2.80 expected outruns the underlying figure by more than two, and two of the five came after the 85th minute. Go Ahead’s Own Recurring Quantity Held Again — Three Big Chances Created, a fourth consecutive reading in the three-to-four band, from ten shots with seven inside the box and 1.54 expected goals — And AZ Created Three As Well. A chance count that recurs is not by itself an advantage, and the fourth match is where that became visible. Victor Edvardsen scored at 22 and Mathis Suray in the third minute of added time; Søren Tengstedt Did Not Score, ending a run of three consecutive league matches in which he had. Table position is suppressed after four matches rather than shown.

Summer squad changes

4 in, 11 out. Where a move is reported rather than confirmed, or a player is not yet eligible to play, that is stated.

In

  • Kjetil Haug from ToulouseFree transfer · Reported, not yet confirmedA 27-year-old Norwegian goalkeeper, signed free on contract expiry with a deal to mid-2029. He was taken by Manchester City at 16 and his career since has been shaped mostly as a backup at Toulouse, with loans to Sarpsborg, Bodø/Glimt and Odd. The technical manager said the club moved early because several goalkeepers were leaving at once. The most consequential arrival of the summer, and the one whose case has since been made on the pitch rather than in a release: he replaced a goalkeeper good enough to be bought by a European-qualifying Eredivisie club, and he has started and completed both league matches.
  • Nick Marsman from Fortuna SittardFree transfer · Reported, not yet confirmed · Eligibility not establishedA 35-year-old goalkeeper, free from Fortuna Sittard on one season plus an option, and reported explicitly as backup to Kjetil Haug. He played for Go Ahead once before, on loan in 2012/13 under Erik ten Hag as first choice in a promotion season, and has since been at FC Utrecht, Feyenoord, Inter Miami and ADO Den Haag.Experienced depth behind Haug. He was named on the bench at Feyenoord and not used, which is matchday inclusion and not a statement about registration; no affirmative eligibility statement exists for him.
  • Tomas Galvez from Manchester CityPermanent transfer · Reported, not yet confirmed · Eligibility not establishedA 21-year-old Finnish international left-back on a contract to mid-2030, signed for a reported €0.5M. He was born in England to a Spanish father, came through Watford and Manchester City, and spent eighteen months on loan at SC Cambuur, where he made 54 competitive appearances as their regular left-back in a promotion season. The fee is carried by one outlet only.Signed as the direct replacement for Aske Adelgaard at left-back, which was one of the two positions the club publicly said it needed to fill. He has not appeared in a competitive match for Go Ahead, and he is named among the players definitely unavailable for Matchweek 3 with no cause published by any source.
  • Erik Flataker from AIKPermanent transfer · Reported, not yet confirmedA 21-year-old Norwegian forward on a contract to mid-2030, signed for a reported €1M. He developed in Norwegian youth football, made 81 appearances and scored 18 goals at Sogndal, then moved to AIK in 2025. Go Ahead had pursued him the previous winter without agreeing terms. The fee is carried by one outlet only.Signed as competition at centre-forward rather than as the right winger the club had publicly named as its priority. He came on and scored in the opening league match and started the second, so his eligibility is established by participation.

  • Jakob Breum to Saint-ÉtiennePermanent transfer · Reported, not yet confirmedThe squad’s principal creative departure, and the first of two central midfielders to leave in a summer in which no central midfielder was signed.
  • Aske Adelgaard to FC TwentePermanent transfer · Reported, not yet confirmedReplaced directly by the incoming Tomas Galvez.
  • Mats Deijl to FeyenoordType not stated · Reported, not yet confirmedHis departure is the reason the captaincy passed to Joris Kramer.

  • Finn Stokkers to RKC WaalwijkFree transfer · Reported, not yet confirmed
  • Xander Blomme to FC EindhovenFree transfer · Reported, not yet confirmed

The coach

  • Joseph Oosting, 54, is in his first season as head coach of Go Ahead Eagles. He was appointed on 11 June 2026 on a two-year contract to mid-2028, succeeding Melvin Boel, who left by mutual agreement on 3 June after a single season. Oosting arrives with the strongest résumé of any coach the club has appointed in this period: consecutive tenth- and ninth-place finishes at RKC Waalwijk that exceeded what that squad was expected to produce, then third place and Champions League qualification with FC Twente in 2023/24, a draw against Manchester United and progress in the Europa League. He was dismissed by FC Twente after a poor start to the following season, and dismissed again by Royal Antwerp in May 2026 after a mid-season takeover that improved the side before it declined. He is described by the national broadcaster as a connector who stands both above and among his players, in explicit contrast to his predecessor; Michiel Kramer and Ricky van Wolfswinkel are both quoted calling him the best coach they have worked with.
  • Go Ahead Eagles have changed head coach in two consecutive summers, and the second change was made from a position of stated satisfaction with results — an unusual thing for a club that finished twelfth and reached a European league phase in the same season. Melvin Boel left after one year having secured Eredivisie survival and beaten Aston Villa 2-1 at home in the Europa League; the club's own general director framed the departure as a collaboration that did not match expectations despite satisfactory results. Separate accounts that Boel was denied the freedom to build his own staff are reported but not corroborated, and are not treated as established here. One continuity appointment is confirmed: assistant coach Rick Adjei turned down a head-coach approach from FC Dordrecht and extended his own contract to mid-2028. The rest of the 2026/27 technical staff is not established.Moderate confidence

How they play

  • Go Ahead Eagles play with a back four under Joseph Oosting, and that is the only part of the shape two competitive matches agree on. Matchweek 2 at Feyenoord was started as a 4-2-3-1 — Haug; James, Kramer, Van Zwam, Sampsted; Salah Rahmouni, Linthorst; Suray, Edvardsen, Tengstedt; Flataker — corroborated three ways inside the match data for that fixture. Matchweek 1 was also played with a back four, but the published renderings of that same eleven disagree about everything in front of it: the club groups it as a midfield three and a front three, a second rendering as two holding midfielders and three behind a lone striker, and no club statement resolves which was intended. A later eleven cannot decide how an earlier one was arranged, so the disagreement stands. Oosting himself is reported as picking by partnerships and describing his side as dynamic rather than settled, which is consistent with a coach who has not committed to a shape in public. One corroborated observation alongside one disputed one is not a preferred structure, and none is claimed.Limited confidence
  • The back four has been stable at three of its four positions and unstable at the fourth. Dean James and Alfons Sampsted started both league matches as the full-backs and Joris Kramer started both in the centre; the second centre-back changed, Julius Dirksen partnering Kramer in Matchweek 1 and Van Zwam in Matchweek 2 after Dirksen dropped out of the squad entirely. Nothing is established about how the side defends beyond who defends: no source describes a block height, a pressing trigger, a defensive line or a set-piece routine, and none is inferred here. Go Ahead conceded thirteen shots at home to Willem II and twenty-seven away at Feyenoord, of which only six reached the goalkeeper — two readings too far apart, against two opponents too different, to describe a defensive method.Moderate confidence
  • What has actually been selected, rather than what it is called. The provider read the Matchweek 3 side as a 4-2-3-1, the same label its Matchweek 2 reading carried — although in this fixture the two sides were read differently from each other, which is a reminder that the label is a rendering rather than a measurement. Julius Dirksen and Melle Meulensteen both started, having carried a published expected return dated to the matchday itself, and both were withdrawn on 76 as part of three simultaneous changes with the side two goals ahead; Stefán Ingi Sigurðarson came on in the same set of changes and scored in the first minute of added time. Evert Linthorst and Mathis Suray completed the match. Five substitutions were used, spread between the 67th and 89th minutes, and the provider flags no injury on any of them. Across three matches the back four has held and the arrangement in front of it has been rendered inconsistently; no source explains any of the changes and no rotation pattern or selection hierarchy is claimed.Moderate confidence

Players who matter most

  • Joris Kramer, 30, is the settled centre of this team and is now contracted to it until summer 2029. He has been captain since Mats Deijl left for Feyenoord, he started both league matches, and on 19 August he extended a deal that had been running to mid-2028 — after FC Groningen had agreed personal terms with him and been unable to agree a fee, and after a Turkish approach the club's general director described as not respectful and did not answer. Technical manager Marc van Hintum's own words on the extension are that Kramer is among the better central defenders in the Netherlands and has been proving it for years. In a side that changed almost its entire eleven over one summer, he is the one player whose position, status and contract are all settled.
  • Kjetil Haug, 27, has played every minute of the season in goal. He was signed free from Toulouse on a contract to mid-2029 as the replacement for Jari De Busser, who was sold to AZ, and he arrived with a career shaped mostly as a backup and no Eredivisie record of his own. He faced thirteen shots at home to Willem II and twenty-seven away at Feyenoord, of which six were on target; he made four saves there and conceded two. That is a settled selection and it is not yet an assessment of him.Moderate confidence
  • Søren Tengstedt has scored in both opening rounds — the 30th minute against Willem II and the 63rd at Feyenoord, the second from an Evert Linthorst assist. Two goals in two matches is two events rather than a scoring rate, and no player-level expected-goals figure exists for either match, so nothing about his finishing is established. What it does establish is that he is being used as a scoring outlet in both a match Go Ahead controlled and a match they did not.Moderate confidence
  • Stefán Ingi Sigurðarson equalised at Feyenoord in the 80th minute, the same minute he came on. He did not start either league match. That is a substitute making the decisive contribution in the more difficult of the two fixtures, and it is one appearance rather than a role.Moderate confidence
  • Evert Linthorst and Yassir Salah Rahmouni started as the central pair at Feyenoord and are the two names the midfield currently rests on. That matters more than it would at most clubs, because Go Ahead sold their principal creative midfielder in Jakob Breum, let Calvin Twigt go permanently to Willem II on 17 August, and signed no central midfielder at all this summer. Linthorst also assisted the first goal at Feyenoord.Moderate confidence
  • Erik Flataker, 21, was signed from AIK for a reported €1M on a contract to mid-2030 and started at Feyenoord. The club describes him as a mobile, quick forward who can lead the line or play around it — a statement of the profile they went looking for rather than an assessment of how he has played. It sits alongside a recruitment run that also pursued a further centre-forward and a coach reported as wanting more outright pace in attack.Moderate confidence

What they do well

  • Four points from the two opening rounds, and the second of them was taken from two goals down away at a Champions League entrant. Go Ahead beat Willem II 4-1 at home on 8 August and drew 2-2 at Feyenoord on 16 August having trailed 2-0 at half-time. Neither result is a measurement of quality on its own; together they are the only competitive evidence this season provides, and it is unbeaten.
  • The attacking output has been high in both matches and in opposite circumstances. At home with 69 per cent of the ball: twenty shots, fourteen from inside the box, ten on target. Away with 47 per cent: fourteen shots, six on target, four big chances created and three strikes against the woodwork. The two are not clean comparators and no durable attacking identity follows from them, but a side that produces double-figure attempts both while controlling a match and while chasing one has shown something in each.Moderate confidence
  • The centre of defence is the settled part of the team and has just been secured. Joris Kramer is the captain, the best-evidenced individual in the squad and now contracted to summer 2029, in a side where almost nothing else about the eleven carried over from last season.
  • A materially lighter calendar than the one just completed. Melvin Boel’s squad played 46 official matches in 2025/26 across the Eredivisie, the KNVB Beker and the Europa League league phase; Go Ahead have no European football in 2026/27, so the baseline is 34 league fixtures plus a cup run, with no Thursday-to-Sunday turnarounds. No source assesses the physical condition of any Go Ahead player, so this is a fact about the schedule and not a claim about freshness. Our reading of the evidence · Moderate confidence
  • A strongly cash-positive summer that has been publicly tied to the ground rather than to the squad. Reported outgoing fees of roughly €5.5M for Milan Smit, €2.2M for Jakob Breum and €2M for Aske Adelgaard, plus an undisclosed AZ fee for Jari De Busser, against a reported €1M and €0.5M spent. The general director is on record that part of the Smit proceeds fund an approximately €18M expansion of De Adelaarshorst, which has been postponed to summer 2027 and is therefore not a 2026/27 operational factor.Moderate confidence
  • A genuine, recent, first-in-club-history trophy and the qualification it produced: Go Ahead won the KNVB Beker on 21 April 2025, beating AZ on penalties after a 1-1 draw and ending a sixty-year wait since the club’s previous final, which earned direct entry to the Europa League league phase. Of the players most closely identified with it, only Julius Dirksen remains at the club.

Where they can be got at

  • Central midfield is the thinnest department in the squad and it has got thinner twice. Jakob Breum, the principal creative asset, was sold to Saint-Étienne and no central midfielder was signed all summer — none of the four arrivals plays there. Calvin Twigt then left permanently for Willem II on 17 August, two days after appearing as a substitute at Feyenoord. Going into Matchweek 3 the two players who started in the middle at Feyenoord are Evert Linthorst, who did not train fully this week, and Yassir Salah Rahmouni; Melle Meulensteen and Mathis Suray, the other two senior options, also did not train fully.
  • A recruitment priority the club named publicly has not been filled. The technical manager said on 20 June that Go Ahead were looking for a right winger and that the incumbents there had not shown what they can do. None of the four confirmed summer arrivals plays that position — two goalkeepers, a left-back and a striker — and the transfer window closes at the start of September.Moderate confidence
  • Three squad players are unavailable on long-term injuries, and two of them have no published return date at all. Gerrit Nauber, the longest-serving player at the club, has been out since 23 October 2025 with a lower-leg fracture sustained in the Europa League fixture at Aston Villa, with no expected return published. Robbin Weijenberg has been out since 13 November 2025 with a knee injury sustained in a friendly against De Graafschap, also with no return date. Pim Saathof has been out since 31 May 2025 with a knee injury and carries a published expected return of 1 January 2027.
  • The goalkeeping department was rebuilt eight weeks before the season and has not yet been tested. Jari De Busser — good enough to be bought by a European-qualifying Eredivisie club — was replaced by Kjetil Haug, a 27-year-old whose career has been shaped mostly as a backup, and Nick Marsman, a 35-year-old free agent. Against that: Haug has started and completed both league matches, and the club is reported to have moved before the sale completed rather than after it.Moderate confidence
  • Only one player from last season’s starting eleven began the opening match of this one. That is the deepest structural fact available about this team: an almost entirely new first eleven, assembled over a single summer, whose partnerships have barely played together. It cuts both ways and is recorded as a risk rather than a verdict — understandings between new team-mates are the slowest thing to arrive in a rebuilt side. Our reading of the evidence · Moderate confidence

What we think happens

Each reading is shown with the evidence for it and the evidence against it. Where those pull in different directions, that is the honest state of the picture.

Central midfield is the part of this squad most likely to decide how the season goes, because it is the only department that has been reduced twice with no replacement bought.

Moderate confidence

Evidence for

  • Jakob Breum, the squad’s principal creative midfielder, was sold to Saint-Étienne, and none of the four summer arrivals is a central midfielder.
  • Calvin Twigt then left permanently for Willem II on 17 August, on a four-year contract.
  • Melle Meulensteen, Mathis Suray and Evert Linthorst — three of the remaining senior options — all trained only partially in the week before Matchweek 3.

Evidence against

  • Joseph Oosting stated on the record that the complaints are minor and that he expects them to be resolved before the match.
  • Linthorst and Yassir Salah Rahmouni started together at Feyenoord and the side scored twice from two goals down.
  • Go Ahead have publicly identified a midfielder at Almere City as a possible successor to Twigt, and the window is still open.
  • All three partially-trained midfielders started against ADO Den Haag; Linthorst and Suray completed the match and Meulensteen was withdrawn on 76 with no published cause. That the department fielded three senior options in a won match is recorded — whether it "lasted" is not established, and no fitness reading is taken from any of the three.

Go Ahead can generate dangerous chances against opponents of different kinds — a capacity expressed in chance Quality rather than in chance volume, and not yet a durable identity.

Moderate confidence

Evidence for

  • Fourteen shots, six on target, four big chances and three woodwork strikes away at Feyenoord with 47 per cent of the ball.
  • Three big chances to the opponent’s one against ADO Den Haag, with 49 dangerous attacks to 37, from 0.99 expected goals becoming 1.71 on target — again with 47 per cent of the ball.
  • Søren Tengstedt has scored in all three league matches and added an assist in the third; Stefán Ingi Sigurðarson has scored from the bench in the last two.

Evidence against

  • The Volume Half Of This Claim Did Not Repeat. Twenty shots with fourteen inside the box at home in the first match became eleven with six inside at home in the third, against a weaker opponent, so shot volume is not a quantity this side has been shown to hold.
  • The three matches were played in materially different circumstances and no quantity holds constant across all of them, so they cannot be combined into a three-match reading.
  • No player-level expected-goals figure exists for any of the three matches, so no individual creation or finishing claim is available at all.
  • Three goals from 0.99 expected goals in the third match is a conversion well above the underlying figure and is not evidence of the capacity this hypothesis describes.

The rebuilt goalkeeping department has been narrowed by two matches rather than answered by them.

Limited confidence

Evidence for

  • Kjetil Haug has started and completed both league matches, which settles the selection question for now.
  • He made four saves at Feyenoord and conceded two, in a match his side did not control.
  • Nick Marsman was named on the bench and not used, which is consistent with Haug being the intended first choice.
  • Kjetil Haug started and completed a third consecutive league match and was not substituted.

Evidence against

  • Only six of the twenty-seven shots Feyenoord took reached him, so the volume conceded overstates how much he was tested.
  • No benchmark exists in this record against which six shots on target can be called a demanding afternoon.
  • He arrived with no Eredivisie record of his own and a career shaped mostly as a backup, and two matches do not change that.
  • Against ADO Den Haag he faced sixteen shots but only three on target, carrying 0.45 expected goals on target — a workload that describes the opponent’s shot profile rather than testing the goalkeeper, so the third match narrows the question no further than the first two did.

Squad and club news

  • Calvin Twigt, 23, joined Willem II permanently on 17 August 2026 on a four-year contract, with no fee disclosed. He had spent the second half of last season on loan there, scoring twice and assisting twice in seventeen matches as Willem II won promotion. His final appearance for Go Ahead was as a substitute at Feyenoord the day before the move was announced. Go Ahead had refused earlier bids for him.
  • Robbin Weijenberg has been unavailable since 13 November 2025 with a serious knee injury sustained in a friendly against De Graafschap that finished 2-2. He had played 46 Eredivisie minutes and eight Europa League minutes before it. No expected return date is published, and he is named among the players definitely absent for Matchweek 3.
  • Pim Saathof has been unavailable since 31 May 2025 with a knee injury and carries a published expected return of 1 January 2027, following a setback in his rehabilitation. He is the longest-standing absence in the squad.
  • Gerrit Nauber, the longest-serving player at the club, had his contract extended by a year to mid-2027 on 4 July 2026 while still recovering from a lower-leg fracture sustained in the Europa League fixture at Aston Villa on 23 October 2025. He has not played since, no expected return date is published, and he is named among the players definitely absent for Matchweek 3. Reporting in July described him as back in training and hoping to return soon; that was never a statement that he was available.
  • Go Ahead Eagles won the KNVB Beker on 21 April 2025 — the first major trophy in the club's history — beating AZ 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at De Kuip and ending a sixty-year wait since the club's previous final. Julius Dirksen converted the winning penalty and Jari De Busser saved two. It earned direct qualification for the Europa League league phase. Of the four players most closely identified with that final, only Dirksen is still at the club.
  • Go Ahead Eagles were eliminated from the 2025/26 Europa League league phase on 29 January 2026 after a 0-0 draw with Sporting Braga at De Adelaarshorst, their first European clean sheet. They finished 28th of 36 with six points from the first three matches — a 2-1 win away at Panathinaikos, a 2-1 home win over Aston Villa and a 1-0 defeat in Bucharest — followed by four consecutive defeats.
  • Joseph Oosting was appointed head coach on 11 June 2026 on a two-year contract to mid-2028, succeeding Melvin Boel. The club describes him as the leading candidate on its shortlist.
  • Captain Joris Kramer extended his contract to summer 2029 on 19 August 2026, adding a year to a deal that had been running to mid-2028. FC Groningen had agreed personal terms with him during the summer but could not agree a fee, and a Turkish club made an offer the general director described as not respectful and did not answer. Kramer's own account of the decision is that the conversations with the staff were good, that he is a person who goes by feeling and the feeling at Go Ahead is good, and that the appreciation he gets from the supporters played a large part in it.

Who is available

  • The Matchweek 3 Team Sheet Settled The Three Doubts That Were Open And Created No New Ones. Julius Dirksen and Melle Meulensteen, both carrying a published expected return dated to the matchday itself, both started — which answers whether they were selectable and does not convert an expected-return date into a clearance retrospectively. Evert Linthorst and Mathis Suray, the other two who had trained only partially, both completed the match. Dirksen and Meulensteen were both withdrawn on 76, together with Victor Edvardsen, with the side two goals ahead; No Cause Is Published For Any Of The Three and none is inferred in either direction. This matters more than usual here because the fixture is unusually clean on the point: ten substitutions were made across the two sides and the provider flags no injury on any of them, and no injuries statistic row exists for either side, so nothing in this match supports an availability claim about anybody. The long-term picture is unchanged and rests on published listings rather than on this fixture: Gerrit Nauber has a lower-leg fracture dating from 23 October 2025 with no published return date, Robbin Weijenberg a knee injury from 13 November 2025 also with none, and Pim Saathof a knee injury since 31 May 2025 with an expected return of 1 January 2027. Tomas Galvez was reported as definitely unavailable for this fixture and appears on no injury listing; unavailable is recorded and why is not. Calvin Twigt has left the club permanently. Nick Marsman was named and unused at Feyenoord, which is inclusion in a matchday squad and not a statement about registration.Moderate confidence
  • One caution in three league matches, and no suspension is established. Julius Dirksen was booked on 44 minutes against ADO Den Haag, recorded by the provider as a foul and the only Go Ahead card in that match; no card of any kind was shown to either side in the second match, and none is recorded against Go Ahead in the first. He was withdrawn on 76, which is consistent with managing a booked defender and equally consistent with a change made at two goals ahead — the feed attaches no cause and none is inferred. No Suspension Consequence Follows From A Single Caution and none is asserted: no source consulted publishes a per-player caution count for Go Ahead for 2025/26 or 2026/27, and the threshold at which a ban would arise is not established in any source held here. The absence of a published suspension is not the same as a confirmed clearance and is not treated as one.Moderate confidence
  • Go Ahead Eagles have played three competitive fixtures in 2026/27 — at home to Willem II on 8 August, away at Feyenoord on 16 August and at home to ADO Den Haag on 23 August — each roughly a week apart with no fixture of any kind in between. They have no European football this season, so the baseline is 34 league fixtures plus a cup run, materially lighter than the 46 official matches the 2025/26 squad played. No fatigue or freshness claim follows and none is made: no source assesses the physical condition of any Go Ahead player. Five substitutions were used in each of the last two matches; in the most recent they were spread between the 67th and 89th minutes, three of them together on 76 with the side two goals ahead, and no source explains any of the changes.
  • Go Ahead Eagles have completed the opening three rounds of the 2026/27 Eredivisie — at home to Willem II, won 4-1 on 8 August at De Adelaarshorst; away at Feyenoord, drawn 2-2 on 16 August at De Kuip in front of 47,500; and at home to ADO Den Haag, won 3-1 on 23 August, a 12:15 local kickoff at De Adelaarshorst. The competition’s own round-three preview placed the two rounds after that away from home; no opponent, date or kickoff time for the next fixture is established in any source held here, and none is stated. Go Ahead have no European commitment in 2026/27, and their entry round for the KNVB Beker is not established.
  • BookingsReported but unconfirmedNo card of any kind was shown to either side in the second league match, and no source consulted publishes a per-player caution count for Go Ahead Eagles for either 2025/26 or 2026/27. Nothing here suggests a caution problem; the point is that the count itself is not published, so no player can be shown to be close to a threshold and none can be shown to be clear of one.
  • SuspensionsReported but unconfirmedNo Go Ahead Eagles player is named as suspended by any source consulted, and the published Eredivisie suspension listing carries no Go Ahead entry. An absent record is not a clearance and is not treated as one, so this is recorded as unconfirmed rather than clear.
  • Playing eligibilityReported but unconfirmedTwo of the four summer arrivals have settled the question by playing: Kjetil Haug has started both league matches and Erik Flataker came on and scored in the first and started the second. That establishes eligibility for the matches they played and nothing further. Nick Marsman was named on a bench and not used, which is inclusion in a matchday squad rather than a statement about registration, and Tomas Galvez has not appeared in a competitive match at all. No affirmative eligibility statement exists for either of them.
  • InjuriesConfirmed issueThree players are reported as definitely unavailable for Matchweek 3 and four more trained only partially in the week before it. The three long-term knee and leg injuries are published with dates; the four partial trainers are described by the head coach as minor complaints he expects to be resolved. One absence has no published cause of any kind.
  • Squad and transfer statusReported but unconfirmedFour summer arrivals and a long list of departures are established with dates and mechanisms, and the largest question in this area has been answered: captain Joris Kramer extended to summer 2029 on 19 August. Two questions remain open while the window does. Calvin Twigt left permanently for Willem II on 17 August and no midfielder has been signed to replace either him or Jakob Breum. And the right-wing position the technical manager named publicly in June is still unfilled.

What we still do not know

This profile records 21 points that available sources did not settle. The questions below are the ones that most affect how Go Ahead Eagles are read; the rest are held open rather than filled in with assumptions.

  • Do Go Ahead Eagles sign a central midfielder before the window closes, having lost both Jakob Breum and Calvin Twigt without replacing either?

It is the only department reduced twice in one summer, and three of the remaining senior options trained only partially in the week before Matchweek 3.

  • Is the right-wing position the technical manager named publicly in June filled before the window closes at the start of September?

The club stated the need itself and said the incumbents there had not shown what they can do; none of the four arrivals plays the position.

  • What shape does Joseph Oosting actually settle on, given one corroborated 4-2-3-1 and one disputed arrangement behind the same back four?

Nothing about pressing, build-up or defensive organisation has been established for this side, and the shape is the only structural evidence available.

  • Are Julius Dirksen, Melle Meulensteen, Mathis Suray and Evert Linthorst fit to be selected for Matchweek 3?

All four trained only partially; two of them carry a published expected return dated to the matchday itself, and two of them are the midfield pair that started the last match.

  • Why is Tomas Galvez unavailable?

He was signed as the direct replacement for the departed left-back, he has not appeared in a competitive match, and he is now named as definitely absent with no cause published anywhere.

  • Is the chance-quality reading — big chances created, and expected goals on target running above expected goals — a repeatable property of this side, or a description of three unlike matches?

It is the only attacking quantity that has recurred, and it recurred while the shot-volume reading the first home match established did not. Four big chances at Feyenoord and three against ADO Den Haag is two observations, not a profile, and the post-shot figure has exceeded the pre-shot one in the only two matches where both exist.

  • Does the home shot volume of the opening match — twenty shots, fourteen from inside the box, 69 per cent of the ball — describe this side, or that one fixture against a promoted opponent?

It did not reproduce in the second home match, against an opponent no stronger, where the same side took eleven shots with six inside the box and had 47 per cent of the ball. One reading against one, in the same stadium, pointing opposite ways.
